Some families feel like old friends. I first met these two back in 2007 when I photographed their wedding at Edgewood on Lake Tahoe. Since then and three kids later, we have shared so many chapters together. From the West Shore of Tahoe to Portola Valley and Menlo Park, every session feels like a return to joy.

For this Sausalito family session, we met at Point Cavallo, one of my favorite places for foggy coastal mornings. As a Marin family photographer, I love locations that offer both rugged beauty and soft light. This day had it all rolling fog, ocean air, and laughter.

This time, we planned a Sausalito family session that began with fog rolling off the bay. The morning felt quiet and calm, wrapped in that silvery light that makes everything glow softly. I love the atmosphere fog creates, especially near the water. It adds something ethereal, like time slows down for a moment. Sausalito family photos in the fog for the win:)

Sausalito Family Session at Point Cavallo
We met at Point Cavallo, one of my favorite places for a variety of looks. It has that perfect mix of rugged coastline, bridges in the distance, and golden grasses that move gently with the breeze. Even without direct sunlight, the light felt painterly. The family moved easily through the session, playful and relaxed, the kind of energy that comes from years of trust in front of my lens.
I laughed later thinking about timing. Ten minutes after they drove away, the fog lifted and there it was, the Golden Gate Bridge clear and glowing. But honestly, I would not change a thing. The mist gave their images a softness and intimacy that sunlight cannot always match.

These are the kinds of sessions that remind me how much I love photographing families over time. Watching kids grow, seeing personalities emerge, and knowing I was there from the very beginning is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do as a Marin family photographer.
